Chinese schools use Wowzers K-8 Math Program to help students learn remotely during Coronavirus crisis

The power of digital technology along with the power of the Wowzers program that uses artificial intelligence to prescribe a personalized learning paths for students is being realized during this time of crisis in China.

San Diego, CA. – February 20th, 2020 –As the confirmed number of Coronavirus infections rises in China, schools are keeping students home in an attempt to keep the disease from spreading. In order to preserve a sense of normalcy and keep students engaged in learning so they don’t fall behind, schools from the districts of Wuhan, Jinjiang, and Hexi China, all part of the International Schools Consortium (iSC) are successfully using the Wowzers Math program to remotely continue students’ math education. What is Wowzers?

Wowzers works with schools in China, in the Sichuan Province, that use the NWEA MAP Growth computer-adaptive assessment to customize a personalized learning path for each student using the Wowzers content. By linking MAP Growth with Wowzers engaging content, educators feel confident in the “NWEA assessment that they already know and trust to place students where they need to be in math instruction to meet their growth goals.” Since the program is automatically individualized to meet each students learning goals educators are finding that remote learning through Wowzers is effective and productive.

Principal John Ross Jones from Chengdu International in Jinjiang District, Chengdu, Sichuan, China reports that his students have been using the Wowzers program at the school and even though the schools are temporarily closed their students have been able to continue their learning of math through the Wowzers program on their electronic devices at home. The students are engaged and teachers are able to see their students’ progress in real-time, even adjusting their curriculum remotely, as necessary, and assigning homework and test prep work while their students work on learning math from home. “Wowzers has been very beneficial for us at this time as we are practicing Home-Based Learning (online learning) in  our schools currently.” -John Ross Jones

Many teachers have chosen the Wowzers dual-path system to create a new curriculum path for students as they learn at home so the curriculum path they use in the classroom is undisturbed. SuJung Ham from Tianjin International School reports that teachers say their students are engaged and showing results using the Wowzers online math resource from home during this time when the schools are closed.

Brandon Hoffman, a teacher at Tianjin International School has returned to the United States during this crisis. He is able to keep up with his students remotely, using the Wowzers program. “It has been a real help during this time because not only are our students at home because of the virus but many of us teachers are also either at home or even in other countries. I personally came back to the States for a time and this has helped keep my students on track with Math remotely while they are in China, Korea, or one even in France.”

The power of digital technology along with the power of the Wowzers program that uses artificial intelligence to prescribe a personalized learning paths for students is being realized during this time of crisis in China.

With the threat of the coronavirus spreading throughout the world Wowzers has demonstrated that e-learning from home works.
